The program of anniversary celebrations in Smolensk

The celebration of the 1150th anniversary of Smolensk, and the 70th anniversary of the liberation of Smolensk from the Nazi invaders in the regional center will start on August, 25 and will last for a bit more than a month.

August

August, 25: the opening ceremony of the VI All-Russian Cinema Festival of actors and directors "Golden Phoenix" will take place at the Smolensk State Drama Theater named after A.S. Griboyedov.

August, 30-31: the National Park "Gnezdovo" will host the festival of historical reconstruction and early medieval culture “Gnezdovo - 2013", as well as the International Folklore-Ethnographic Festival" Slavyanskoe Bratstvo".

August, 31: there will be the city Festival of Street Art, as well as the Smolensk Cup Show Jumping Championship at the racetrack of Children and Youth Sport School of Olympic Reserve No. 3.

On the same day the closing ceremony of the VI All-Russian Cinema Festival of actors and directors "Golden Phoenix" will take place at the "Sovremennik" movie theatre. Then, there will be a concert of Russian pop stars in Lenin Square.

The last day of the summer will end with fireworks and a laser show in Lenin Square.
 

September

September, 1: the Aeronautics Festival will take place in the sky above Smolensk.

On this first autumn day the Dance Academy Festival "For the beloved city” in "Lopatinsky Sad" will, no doubt, attract a lot of spectators, and there also will be a freestyle motocross show at the stadium "Spartak".

September, 14: the airport "Yuzhny" will host the Third All-Russian Festival of Fireworks "Smolensk Starfall". September, 19-21: the Ice Palace of the Smolensk State Academy of Physical Culture, Sports and Tourism (Gagarin Avenue, 23) will host the All-Russian competition in short track with members of the national team of Russia participating.

September, 21: the parade "Link of Times" will go through the city, and the hyper-playground "Smolensk children-land" with air castles, sweet houses, animated characters will open its doors in "Lopatinsky Sad".

September, 21-22: there will the fair "City of Craftsmen" in Dzerzhinsky Street.

September, 21: the interactive historical sites "Milestones in the history of Smolensk" will be working up the hill at Gromovaya tower, at the ground near the monument "Grateful Russia to the Heroes of 1812" and in Lenin Street.

September, 21: in Lenin Square there will be the opening ceremony of the anniversary celebrations with the congratulating speeches of the officials, it will be continued by the theatrical performance "Smolensk is a city looking to the future" and the aircraft performance in the sky above the Dnieper.

On the same day we are expecting to see the performance of the top KVN League champions - "Triode and Diode" team and a big concert.

Also, on September, 21, the Smolensk Regional Philharmonic Society will host the All-Russian festival of brass bands "On Seven Hills". There will be a festive disco for young people in "Lopatinsky Sad", and fireworks in Lenin Square.

September, 22: the stunt show of the International Stunt Academy presented by the team of professional stuntmen will take place at the stadium "Spartak".

September, 25: a military parade and a concert dedicated to the 70th anniversary of the liberation of Smolensk from the Nazi invaders will be held in the main square of Smolensk.

On the same day "field kitchens" will be working at the Veterans Hospital, in "Lopatinsky Sad", at the monument to Alexander Tvardovsky and his literary character Vasily Tyorkin.

September, 25: in the Park of Heroes there will be a meeting dedicated to the 70th anniversary of the liberation of Smolensk from the Nazis, as well as laying wreaths and flowers to the Eternal Flame and the graves of heroes.

On the same day there will be a theatrical hoisting of the flag over the hotel "Smolensk", and the Brass Band Festival at the site of the monument to Alexander Tvardovsky and his literary character Vasily Tyorkin.

September, 25: in Victory Square there will be a ceremony of laying a memorial stone at the basement of the future monument to the liberators of Smolensk. Also, on September, 25 the SGAFKST stadium will host the opening ceremony of the National Festival of Physical Culture University students.

On the day of liberation of Smolensk from the Nazi invaders the Smolensk State Drama Theatre named after A.S. Griboyedov will host the official ceremony and a concert.

The holiday on September, 25, will finish with a gala concert and fireworks in Lenin Square.

September, 28: there will a ceremony of opening and laying the capsules "The message of Smolensk people to descendants" in Victory Square.

Also during the celebrations Smolensk people and guests will be able to see various contests award ceremonies, a parade, festivals, ceremonies, competitions, exhibitions, a stage show "From the Vikings to the Greeks", various sports games, and much more.
