The Governor’s working visit to the “Pervomaysky” glass plant

Governor Alexey Ostrovskiy came with a working visit to the settlement Pervomaysky in Shumyachsky district, where he looked around the local glass plant – the main enterprise of the area.

Pervomaysky glass plant was founded in 1879. It specialized in the production of window glass, then, beginning from 1924, it produced bottles for various purposes. In 1950 it began production of assorted glassware.

Later a new facility for production of dishes made of crystal was built. The company continued to grow steadily: plumbing network, warehouses for chemicals and wastewater treatment facilities were built. In 1992 the company was incorporated, and five years later it launched its products export.

Currently, the company employs 300 people who work in three shifts, which guarantees a non-stop operation of the plant. Glass and crystal ware is produced with the help of modern equipment and painstaking manual labor. The products of local craftsmen are remarkable for environmental friendliness and high quality.

After examining all production stages, Alexey Ostrovskiy looked at the product samples, many of which are true works of art. The head of the region also discussed the problems and prospects of the company development with the management and workers of the plant.

Among the main difficulties recently encountered in the production there are insufficient sales volumes both in the region and beyond it. In addition, the company management pointed out the personnel problems: young professionals are leaving Pervomaysky.

They also stressed that the assistance from the regional authorities could support the company and bring back highly qualified specialists to Pervomaysky. The plant management drew the Governor’s attention to some general social problems of the settlement, solving which could improve the employment situation in Pervomaysky and facilitate the development of the city-forming enterprise.

According to the results of the working visit, the Governor entrusted the corresponding executive authorities of the region with the task of assisting the company in including the Pervomaysky glass plant in the regional program of energy conservation and efficiency, as well as in getting the federal subsidies for the development of folk arts and crafts.
