SMOLENSK JOURNALISTS’ DAY
On the Day of Russian press celebrated on the 13th of January, there was a traditional solemn meeting where one could find editors and the leading journalists of the regional and oblast mass media, managers and workers of the printeries, and representatives of the Internet community.
Deputy Governor of the region Aleksey Vorobiev, Vice-Chairman of the Regional Duma Nicolay Martynov, Secretary of the Politcouncil of the regional department of ‘Yedinaya Rossiya’ (‘United Russia’) Andrei Shmatkov gave their warm greetings to everybody the modern world of information could not do without on the occasion of their professional holiday.
In his welcoming address Aleksey Vorobiev marked that the press of the Smolensk region was represented by a lot of talented and highly skilled journalists who felt sincere empathy for problems and anxieties of their fellow-townsmen.
The editorial staffs and journalists, who had done a lot to cover the social, economic and political life of the Smolensk region, were honored with gubernatorial letters of gratitude, letters of commendation, diplomas, and pecuniary prizes.
The previous year became the year of celebrating the Great Victory. The final of the mass media interregional contest ‘Victory! Down the years and generations…’ took place in Tambov. It was devoted to the 65th Anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic war. The creative competition was held under the aegis of Plenipotentiary of the President of the Russian Federation in the Central Federal District Georgy Poltavchenko. About 200 representatives of print media and electronic media from the regions of the Central Federal District participated in the contest. The Smolensk region has the right to be proud of its journalists: the journalist of the television company ‘TNT-Phoenix’ Julia Egorova took the first place in the nomination ‘My war’, Eugene Chernyak, a radio journalist of the National Broadcasting Company ‘Smolensk, was the winner in the nomination ‘The unknown war’.

You really help people find answers to the sharpest and urgent questions’, emphasized Deputy Governor and wished the journalistic community to gain general acceptance and confidence of readers, viewers, radio listeners, new star names, inexhaustible inspiration, solidarity and creative tirelessness, professional growth, good health and prosperity.
