The memorial site - the chapel in honor of the Russian prisoners of war killed in the Patriotic War of 1812 was opened in Gagarin

Governor Alexey Ostrovskiy took part in the opening ceremony of the memorial site – the chapel in the center of Gagarin near the Temple of Our Lady of Kazan. This chapel commemorates the tragic events of the Patriotic War of 1812 when in place of the old Smolensk road passing through Gzhatsk the Russian soldiers captured by the French army were killed.

The ceremony was also attended by Secretary of State - Deputy Minister of Culture of the Russian Federation Grigory Ivliev, the representatives of state and municipal authorities, public organizations and institutions, residents and visitors of Gagarin.

The right to open the memorial site was given to Alexey Ostrovskiy and Gregory Ivliev. Following the consecration of the memorial site the participants of the ceremony laid flowers to it.
