Alexey Ostrovskiy opened the regional stage of "The Clever Guys" quiz

Under the patronage of the Governor Alexey Ostrovskiy the regional qualifying stage of the federal television project for high school students "The Clever Guys of Smolensk region" is being held in Smolensk region. On Saturday, February 1, the Cultural and Exhibition Center named after the Tenishevs hosted the first game of the quarterfinals, which was opened by the Governor.

The students of the tenth grades of the general education institutions with outstanding achievements in studying the humanities (the Russian and Foreign languages, Literature, History, Social studies, World Art culture) take part in the regional competition. According to agreement with the head of the TV project "The Clever Guys" Professor MGIMO Yuri Viazemsky, who, in fact, will take part in the finals, the winners of Smolensk regional qualifying stage in 2013/2014 academic year without additional tests will be invited to participate in the federal television project. The winners of the national stage are enrolled on special conditions to the Moscow State Institute of International Relations MID RF.

The qualifying stage of "The Clever Guy of Smolensk region" consisted of two rounds. In the first one, the participants were asked to write a creative piece on the topic "Man with a capital letter". 112 people sent their essays to the organizers of the competition. In the second round there was an in-person interview with the participants, which was held on December, 16 last year. After the two rounds, 48 people were qualified to participate in the competition.

The winners of today's quarterfinal game "War of 1812" are going to take part in the semi-finals, which will be held in March. The three participants scored the maximum number of points at the on-site round (of the competition) will be recognized the winners. It is them who without further testing will take part in the All-Russian television humanitarian olympiad "The Clever Guys" MGIMO for 2014/2015 academic year on the base of the Studio "Obraz-TV" (Moscow, Russia).
