Smolensk region is celebrating the Day of Unity of Belarusian and Russian people

The events to mark the Day of Unity of Belarusian and Russian people, which is celebrated annually on 2nd April, have started. Thus, on the first day of April the regional center hosted the International Dance Festival featuring children dance groups. The guests from the fraternal republic demonstrated their talents along with the Smolensk children.

The young spectators – the school students from the regional center - enjoyed the performances of the Smolensk Dance Theatre "Probuzhdenie", the folk group "Kudesy", the individual performers, as well as of the Belarusian folk dance group "Na rostanyakh". All its members are students of the Vitebsk State College of Culture and Arts.

This year, besides the Day of Unity of Belarusian and Russian people, which has been celebrated for the 18th time, it is the 15th anniversary of signing the treaty on the creation of the Union State, which makes the celebrations even more important. In Smolensk region public, cultural, sports and other celebrations will take place in many municipalities.

The thematic class hours and exhibitions of drawings "Fraternity of the Peoples", "The Country of Belarus", "The National Costumes of the people of Russia and Belarus" will be organized at the schools of Smolensk and the municipalities. Ershichi will host the open mini-football tournament among boys of 1996-1998, which will be attended by the athletes from the Belorussian city of Hotimsk. In the central library of Vyazma its residents and guests will gather for the literary and poetic event named "Rallied in a Union to Win", the film "Brest Fortress" will be shown in the Katyn Culture Hall, the Duhovschina Culture Hall will host the music festival "Belarusian tunes".

It is noteworthy that the International Theatre Festival "Smolensk Ark", which starts on 3rd April, will begin with the performance of actors from Smolensk and Belarus. The actors of Smolensk regional Puppet Theater named after D.N. Svetilnikov will present on its stage the concert-performance «PUPPET-SHOW - Hi! Bonjour! Hallo!". On the same day the Belarusian State Academic Musical Theater from the Belorussian capital will give a vaudeville play "The True Story of lieutenant Rzhevsky” on the stage of the Smolensk Drama Theatre.
