Smolensk commemorates the plane crash victims

Today, there are memorial ceremonies held to mark the fourth anniversary of the crash of the Polish Tu -154 in which the Polish President Lech Kaczynski and other highest state officials, the representatives of the army, the clergy and public organizations of the Republic of Poland were killed.

The Polish Presidential plane crashed in the morning of April 10, 2010. There were 96 people on board - 88 passengers who were heading to Katyn to take part in the memorial ceremonies, and 8 crew members. They were all killed.

On the fourth anniversary of the tragedy the top officials from the Administration of the region, the representatives of the clergy, public organizations and student community laid flowers to the memorial stone at the site of the plane crash in the airfield "Severny".

After the Orthodox prayer and the ecumenical prayer that took place at the birch at the site of the tragedy, the ceremony participants lit lamps and kept a minute of silence in memory of the killed.

The Polish delegation taking part in the ceremony at the crash site included the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Poland in the Russian Federation Wojciech Zajączkowski, the secretary general of the Council for the Protection of Struggle and Martyrdom Sites Andrzej Kunert, as well as other top officials.

Today, there was also a meeting of Governor Alexey Ostrovskiy and Ambassador Wojciech Zajączkowski, during which the parties discussed the issues of economic cooperation between and the Republic of Poland.
