Alexey Ostrovskiy attended the annual meeting of the Smolensk Branch of the Russian Peace Foundation

The Meeting of the Branch activists discussed the issues connected with the priority programs and projects of the Smolensk Branch of the Russian Peace Foundation, approved the report on the activities of the organization for the last five years, and elected the Board of the Branch. Governor Alexey Ostrovskiy took part in the meeting.

Smolensk regional branch of the International Public Fund "Russian Peace Foundation" (before 1991 “Soviet Peace Foundation") was established in March 1961. Its main activity is the creation and implementation of peace and charity programs, which are aimed at promoting peace, friendship and understanding between people, humanity and charity, at preventing national, religious and social conflicts, defending human rights, environmental conservation, development of international cooperation, scientific, cultural and youth exchanges. Lydia Efimovna Nikitina, a member of the Public Council under the Public Chamber of Smolensk region, has been the Head of Smolensk the Smolensk Peace Foundation since 1989.

"The activities of the Russian Peace Foundation are very diverse, - said Governor Alexey Ostrovskiy in his welcoming speech. - I believe that our Smolensk regional branch could choose two or three of the tasks set by the federal management of the Foundation, which are the closest to our region".

On the same day within the framework of the meeting there was a ceremony of awarding honor diplomas from the Administration of Smolensk region to the representatives of the regional branch of the Foundation.
