The All-Russian campaign "Spring Week of Kindness – 2014” began in Smolensk region

The annual All-Russian voluntary campaign "Spring Week of Kindness” started in Smolensk region. In the framework of the campaign the Smolensk Blood Center hosted the opening ceremony of the social project "A drop of blood."

"Spring Week of Kindness" is focused primarily at educational and pedagogical work with children and teenagers. Its participants are young people from 14 to 30 years old. During the Week in Smolensk region there will be voluntary activities of regional and local social significance aimed at providing targeted assistance to sick children, elderly and lonely people. Among then there is donating blood, improving school territories, planting trees, cleaning parks and gardens, as well as organizing charity concerts, collecting clothes, books and toys.

The social project "A drop of blood" is the first in a series of these activities during the "Spring Week of Kindness". According to the organizers’ idea it will help to eliminate young people’s illiteracy in the sphere of blood donation and to increase the number of regular donors. Today the problem of donated blood shortage is quite serious in Russia. According to statistics, 40 donors are required for every thousand of people, but currently there are only 12 for a thousand.

During the Week in educational institutions of the city and the region there will be held “Lessons of Kindness” aimed at encouraging from an early age the values of humanism, participation of children and teenagers in voluntary activities, involving them in the process of social engineering.

In addition, during the campaign people with disabilities and big families will be able to visit cultural institutions of Smolensk for free.
