The Russian-Latvian business and community meeting

The issue of improving bilateral mutually beneficial cooperation between the business community of Smolensk and Rezekne was the main topic at the meeting of the Russian-Latvian business and community meeting, which was held in the regional center.

At the meeting the representatives of the regional authorities gave a presentation of the economic potential of Smolensk region for the Latvian guests, providing the information on all the aspects of the region's economy, including the major investment projects, its historical and cultural heritage, natural and recreational resources, industrial structure, and education system.

In their turn, the representatives of the Latvian business community proposed the Smolensk counterparts to carry out several investment projects in such spheres as innovations, energy saving technology and wood processing.

Recently, according to the experts of the International Monetary Fund, the Latvian economy is experiencing a significant improvement. One of the reasons for it is the expansion of business contacts with one of its main partners - the Russian Federation. In the guests’ opinion, Smolensk region is one of the promising regions of Russia with the high potential for foreign investments. Therefore, the Latvian party expressed interest in establishing mutually beneficial relationships with the business partners in the Smolensk region.

The meeting participants stressed that this way of communicating and exchanging ideas on the issues of mutual interest helps to strengthen business connections and facilitates establishing favorable conditions for economic development of Smolensk region and Latvia.
