The student agricultural brigades went to help the rural areas of the Smolensk region

In the central square of the regional center there was a ceremony of sending the members of the student agricultural brigade "Smolensk Niva-2014" to help with the spring field work in the region.

The mechanized brigade consists of 67 students of the Smolensk State Academy of Agriculture. In the near future they are going to work at the companies and organizations in 15 districts of the region: Viazemsky, Gagarinsky, Dorogobuzhsky, Duhovschinsky, Yelninsky, Monastyrshchinsky, Novoduginsky, Roslavlskye, Rudnyansky, Sychevsky, Smolensky, Safonovsky, Pochinkovsky, Shumyachsky and Hislavichsky.

The student mechanized brigade "Smolensk Niva" has been working in the region for four years. It was formed at the Smolensk State Academy of Agriculture on the basis of the Engineering and Technology faculty. For the three years 183 students of the brigade have done great volume of work in the fields of Smolensk region and provided significant help to the agricultural sector of the region. Thus, only during the third work semester in 2013 8,000 hectares of land was ploughed, 15,000 hectares were prepared for planting and sown, 20 thousand hectares were mowed. Besides, the students from the mechanized brigade did repairs and plumbing work.

Also, in the third work semester of the last year the students had an opportunity to use the modern resource-saving equipment. Within the framework of the long-term regional target program "Development of agriculture and regulation of markets for agricultural products, raw materials and food in the Smolensk region" for the last three years 1,620 units of machinery and equipment, including 324 tractors, 28 grain harvesters and 14 forage harvesters, have been purchased.

At the end of the ceremony in Lenin square there was a parade of the agricultural tractors driven by the students of the Engineering and Technology Faculty of the Smolensk State Academy of Agriculture Polina Titkova, Alexey Petrov and Stan Mikhailichenko.
