Smolensk region is celebrating Victory Day

After the parade in the regional center there was a ceremony dedicated to the national holiday of Victory. The heads of Smolensk region, Smolensk, the Smolensk and Vyazma diocese, war veterans, soldiers of the Smolensk garrison, representatives of the federal agencies and non-governmental organizations, students and schoolchildren came to the Memory of Heroes park.

Hundreds of Smolensk residents came to the Fire of Eternal Glory to pay tribute to those who gave their lives to save the world from fascism, to thank the veterans for their heroic feat, for the fact that they continue to be active, setting the example of unwavering spirit and true patriotism.

Participants of the ceremony kept a minute of silence. Wreaths and flowers were laid to the Eternal Flame, the tomb of Hero of the Soviet Union, a native of Rudnyansky district Mikhail Yegorov, who in May 1945 hoisted the Victory Banner over the dome of the defeated Reichstag, to the graves of those defenders of the Homeland who were buried at the Smolensk fortress wall.

Governor Alexey Ostrovskiy took part in the celebrations dedicated to Victory Day. The Head of the region visited "Lopatinsky" park, where in the Mass field there was a performance of the Smolensk policemen.

Next, the Governor went to the site near the Culture Hall "Sharm", where Alexey Ostrovskiy, together with the Smolensk residents had some "soldier" porridge.

The governor also visited the reception in honor of the veterans of the Great Patriotic War.
